In partnership with Swiss Arts Council Prohelvetia, New Delhi and the Lucerne University of Applied Science and Art, the Samdani Art Foundation is looking for art enthusiasts to work as Art Mediators during the Dhaka Art Summit 2018.

Art Mediation intends to widen access to art for different audiences, especially those not very familiar with art. Recently invented mediation formats break with the traditional idea of art mediation where experts explain the arts. Recent strategies and tools have become much more diverse and have created valuable new approaches towards the arts by e.g. let layman guide people through the exhibitions using their words when explaining the art works or reconceptualise guided tours as discussions among peers.

The DAS 2018 Mediation Programme will introduce the concept of art mediation to the participants via practical exercises as well as with reference to theoretical reflections. Through a series of trainings and workshops, Art Mediators will be equipped with the necessary competences to develop site-specific art mediation tools and prepare them for using them to maximise audience engagement during DAS 2018. This will be an opportunity for the art enthusiasts to develop professional skills, working alongside international curators and art professionals. After the completion of the full programme, each participant will be given certificate of attendance.

First Mediator Training Workshop

Second Mediator Training Workshop

To help equip all Mediators will all of the tools they need to interact with DAS’s visitors, a shorter day-long follow on workshop will be organised in January 2018.  This will be an opportunity to familiarise all Mediators with DAS 2018’s exhibition concepts and content.  During this workshop, each Mediator will be assigned a selection of three exhibitions in which they will be stationed, on rotation, during DAS 2018.
